Can't connect to computer

Postby Zero » Sun Mar 09, 2008 5:06 pm

I've recently decided to play around with musical software, and had the hope of being able to use it in conjunction with my keyboard. However, I can't seem to get my computer to accept my keyboard - I've installed the official Yamaha drivers, and am using Sibelius 5. Can anyone help?

Hi Zero,
Welcome to the Forums! As with all questions, the more information given the easier it is for others to try and help you, I'm going to assume you are using a USB cable. A simple fix may be disconnect the USB cable from your synth, turn your computer on, plug in USB cable and see if your computer prompts you to install the midi driver. Click install, follow the prompts, and that may take care of your issues, this is discussed in several threads throughout this site. You may also need to change some settings in your software or computer to make things work.

Sorry about the information deficit, yes indeed I am using a USB connector. I am using the "to host" out on the keyboard, in case it matters. I have also done exactly that: I simply connected the keyboard and installed a set of drivers when prompted. Unfortunately I don't have the software that came with the keyboard, so I had to download the drivers off Yamaha's website. Now the drivers don't recognise the keyboard.

Unplug USB cable, start computer, make sure drivers are installed, then plug in USB cable and follow the prompts. These steps must be done in exactly this order.

Not sure about the S500 but most keyboards that use a USB connection need to be switched between Data and Midi modes depending on what you want to do. Might be worth checking your in Midi mode when connecting to Sibelius?
