NAMM 2017: Gibson might be about to launch a new solidbody electric guitar model?

Unread postby Saul » Wed Jan 11, 2017 12:00 pm

Some eagle eyed visitors to the Gibson stand at the recent CES 2017 spotted something unusual, a new double-cutaway body shape with offset horns, almost like a Yamaha or PRS.

There has been no announcement about this so far so perhaps they are saving it for NAMM 2017 at the end of this month. However I am sure they would have been aware that people would see this guitar at CES so maybe it's all part of the Hype machine to create a bit of a buzz before the big one, who knows?

Funny things is, there was a model description card under each guitar yet no one was able to photograph that? 8O

Ha ha, yes Revstar was the first thing that came to mind when I saw them ;)

I do like the shape but I bet they are going to be a ridiculous price..as are most things with 'Gibson' on the headstock.

I saw some pics last week. My first reaction was a bastard born from PRS and Yamaha. NOT a Gibson. So maybe they are dipping toes before launching just in case it is another Gibbo booboo so soon after the last one.

I think it could work but they need to get the price and more importantly for a premium product, the quality control right.

Wow! Why "most hated"? I love the way it looks :) That's the sort of guitar I would have no hesitation in buying...if I had the money of course ;)

Most PEOPLE giving their 5 cents in places like Disguss and a few Gibson related forums gave it thumbs down.

Who cares, I am chuffed with my off beat Gibsons, the others are also slightly strange in design and styling too.

The N-225 has handpainted pinstripes designed by hot rod artist Rick Harris.
Now Rick didn't paint the guitars, he just designed the paintjob, but others did the stripes by hand.
A careful look at pictures online shows that none of them are perfectly identical.
You can actually feel the pinstripes overlapping on your fingertips.

Regards
Peter

I like the pinstriping. But I would hate to spend my day doing one after another.

For some people it's a passion though and they probably will be working on a number of projects at the same time. Also they know because it is hand painted, each one is unique in it's slight variation. There is some satisfaction in knowing that I think :)
