I have realised why 3 VG STD's turned up for sale this year. I bought mine from a lovely lady in Woking who was selling it for her Client who suffers from "OCD". He purchased 3 brand new from (I think) Andertons in Guildford. Apparently they were nearly £800 each! I bought the last one which was boxed and never played! Apparently he changed his mind and decided he didn't like them!!!!! This may expalin why 3 appeared for sale this year but does not answer why Yamaha made them! Mine playes like a dream but I'd love to know the history behind Yamaha's thinking!!??!!??
Any ideas Guys????
If Andertons sold the 3 guitars, surely they remember something about the sale, and they may contribute with some more info :?:

Just a pic of the VG-Custom. SO RARE, be prepared to sell your soul just to get on the waiting list, to touch one.

Interesting to follow, since the asking price is A LOT more than I paid for mine a few years ago.

The VG-Std is called the "ASKA Model" (even officially) because it was played by ASKA of Japanese pop group Chage & ASKA, who were super popular in the early 90s. It was not nearly as expensive as other "artist model" guitars like the Takanaka guitars or others. It is meant to be played standing up. As far as I know, no other Japanese major musician played one.

I had never actually seen a real picture of a VG Custom until this thread - I'd only heard rumors.

Thank you balston11!
Glad to be here.
I'm a Yamaholic of a sort and just came across the forum because of the rarest of the rare thread but I like the VG-Std for its looks and beautiful color (I think many other models sound better).

All the stories all over the net and here are that the VG standard was produced in ltd numbers in 1997 however if you look at the 2000 Yamaha catalogue the VG standard appears there. That seems inconsistent with that theory.
