YEAH , I got TWINS !! (all about the bass)

Unread postby Buzzard » Thu Dec 25, 2014 1:57 pm

A few years ago, a Yamaha guitar was at the very top of my wishlist.

The catch was that this one is rare, very rare ......... but,
being an uncureable optimist, I knew I'd end up getting it, it's just a matter of time. 8)

Then ebay USA came up with ........ not the guitar, but an original hard case for it.
Image

an empty case and a dream. I bought it.
Image

Then I got Lucky, a Yamaha Forum member found just the guitar I was looking for on ebay Germany. :D
Image
Well, another original Yamaha hardcase, but this time with contents. Guitar and hardcase close to mint condition. :D
Image
The Yamaha GX-1 guitar turned out to be all I hoped for and even some, it's pure 80's cool pleasure. 8)
More about this fantastic guitar here: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=7142

The first hardcase is in good shape, but not quite as well kept as the one belonging to the Yamaha GX-1 guitar.
I got ready to resell the empty Yamaha hardcase ......................
It turns out that both cases are are a "one size fits all" , they have extra length to fit a bass ..... HUH , a matching bass :?:

......... here I go again ....... not being a bass player getting a Yamaha BX-1 would be utterly rediculous. <->
On the other hand, madness has ruled before, that's how I got my Yamaha RGX-A2 guitars and the matching Yamaha RBX4-A2 bass.

The hunt was on again, ebay USA had 2 at the moment, but I lost the first auction, and the second ended due to a dispute between seller and ebay.
I contacted the seller and found that the bass would not go back on ebay, so we haggled for a while.
well almost, the mails got slower, and I suppose seller was hoping to get a bit more for the bass .....
Fair enough, but I always have to consider adding about 35% to the original grand total for import taxes, vat and shipping.

Months later the seller contacted me with a price fair for both of us. I paid and the bass was sent to my US shipping address.
They shipped it and I recieved it December 23.

So what's in this twisted brown original Yamaha gigbag :?:
Image

WOW :D Karl's Yamaha BX-1 Bass
Image

............ and here are the TWINS

Image
note the reflections, yours truely and camera on the guitar and the christmas tree on the right side of the bass.

Neck: Maple & Mahogany 5 Piece Through Neck
Finger board: striped ebony
Body: Nato

This bass is so cool and comfortable, that i'll spend more time trying to be a bass player too. :D
Thanks to Evelyn.

Peter

Noise-making gear: Cubase Elements 8, Korg Electribe 2, Yamaha MOXF6, Novation Mininova, two guitars run through a Boss GT10 and couple of jaw-harps.
Oh yeah, and the Novation KS4 is now hooked up again(even though it has to rest vertically when not used)!

UPDATE :!:

I've had the bass for a while now, and I'm still getting happier about it every time it's being played.

It's been cleaned up a bit, the neck adjusted and the fretboard cleaned and conditioned with lemon oil.

The strings have been changed to: Thomastik-Infeld (Vienna) flat wound jazz strings.
The main reason for getting "flat wounds" is taking the PAIN out of sliding up and down the strings.
after all, I'm not really a bass player, and I treasure the skin on my fingers.

The BX-1 bass has two humbucker pickups with COILTAP just as the GX-1 guitar .............
SO COOL, almost a jazz bass (coiltapped to single pickup) and a precision bass (humbucker) in one. ((i))

The bass itself i very comfortable to sit or stand with, the weight is about 3.2 kilos.
The action has been adjusted as low as possible without buzzing at normal play.
The combination of action and choice of strings makes me able to play it for hours, non stop, without busting my fingers or skin.

The 80's design, of bass and guitar is a perfect match, and a reminder of times when producers dared trying out new bold designs,
just for the hell of it.

New big brother for my Yamaha SGV-300 (Surf-Guitar) , the Yamaha SBV-500.

That's some extended family you have Peter! Is there a red headed step-child among them? Or do they all get the same love?

Appears to be a population explosion in Europe this fall.
Now someone needs to come up with triplets a guitar a baritone and a base all from the same series. I think the AES series could provide. Any takers?
